Power Summit from Thursday

KATHMANDU, Dec 14: Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal (IPPAN) is organizing Power Summit 2016 in Kathmandu on Thursday and Friday.

The summit is expected to see participation of both domestic hydropower developers and international developers and financial institutions. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is scheduled to inaugurate the event.

Participants from India, China, Norway and Bangladesh are participating in the summit, according to IPPAN.

Speaking at a press meet on Tuesday, IPPAN President Khadga Bahadur Bisht said that the summit will focus on generating 10,000 MW of electricity in the country in the next decade. "We will discuss the projects that will come into generation or projects that may enter construction in the next decade," Bisht said, adding that IPPAN officials will hold discussion with international representatives on market for electricity generated in Nepal.

The summit will also see discussions on energy security, and analysis of energy demand and supply situation. At the summit, experts are presenting working papers on financing hydropower projects through domestic investment and foreign direct investment, among others.

IPPAN had organized similar summits in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2013.
