Police implement ban on pedestrian activity along footpaths around Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU, Feb 27: The police have implemented a ban on pedestrian activity along the footpaths surrounding the Singha Durbar. Following the intrusion of a group of microfinance victims into the parliament building in New Baneshwar on Monday, security measures have been heightened around the Singha Durbar area.

A rope barrier has been installed along the footpaths encircling the Singha Durbar, delineating it as a restricted zone. While individual pedestrian activity around the parliament building in New Baneshwar is permitted, group gatherings have been prohibited by the police.

Furthermore, security personnel have been instructed to prevent pedestrian movement near the perimeter wall. After the microfinance victims entered the parliament building, the Ministry of Home Affairs removed 32 security personnel, including the police inspector responsible for external security from their duties.

These individuals were replaced by a new team deployed on Monday. Shortly, Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha convened an emergency meeting with the heads of security agencies at the ministry.
