The police have arrested 21-year-old Rupendra Lama of Tarebhir in Gokarneshwor Municipality-3 who was allegedly involved in the murder and made him public.

The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office held a press conference on Sunday and made public the person accused in the murder. According to the police, the person accused of killing Sushma Lama was in a one-sided love with her for the past eight  months and has confessed to murdering her after she did not accept his proposal despite his repeated requests.

According to the police, the victim Sushma Lama, who had left for her college on February 5, did not return home but posted her wedding photo on Facebook on February 6 and said that she would return back in three days. After she did not return back and remained out of contact, the family reported the missing person to the police circle on February 8. The police then started a search and investigation.

A month later, on the evening of March 7, the body was found buried in Shivapuri where only her hands were visible. The half-decomposed body was exhumed on March 8 and was identified by the victim’s mother.

According to the police, they have also recovered a spade used to bury the body, the deceased's mobile phone and books and notebooks from the accused's room.
