KATHMANDU, Aug 23: It has been found that out of the people losing lives in road accidents, forty percent are pedestrians.

At a concluding program on Road Safety Awareness here Tuesday, Deputy Inspector General of Police at the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Prakash Aryal, said that a total of 2,006 people were killed in road mishaps in the fiscal year 2015/16. Of them, 800 were pedestrians.

DIG Aryal said, "Such high number of people lose their lives in road accidents every year. It is necessary that all should create awareness from their sides to minimize the accidents."

Driving in hurry and crossing road from wrong place leads to fatal accidents, he argued.

Similarly, Manager of the Nepal Scout, Rabin Dahal, said that it was necessary to run traffic management and safety classes in the cities out of the Kathmandu Valley too.

Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Division, Sabin Pradhan, said that students of different schools in Kathmandu had been making pedestrians and drivers aware of traffic rule since July 24.

The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division and Nepal Scout had jointly organized the program. RSS
