NT, China Telecom sign MoU for Internet connectivity

KATHMANDU, Dec 8: Nepal Telecom (NT) and China Telecom Global (CTG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for connecting Nepal with terrestrial cable route.

According to a statement issued by NT, the terrestrial cable route will be connected to Nepal via Jillong gateway along Nepal-China border. Lochan Lal Amatya, chief technical officer of NT and Ow Yang, executive vice president of CTG, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.

As per the MoU, Nepal can have Internet connectivity from China. Such connectivity, so far, is possible only through India. NT is connected to different telecom companies of India through Bhairahawa, Birgunj and Biratnagar. “Nepal can take huge benefit from the new route and establish itself as a transit hub,” Amatya said in the signing ceremony. Likewise, Yang said that CTG was working to extend the route in the Himalayan region.
