Niharika shatters Gaurika’s nat’l record

KATHMANDU, Sept 23: Niharika Tuladhar set new national record in girls’ 50 meters breaststroke event in the NSA Swimming Tournament on Friday. Niharika broke the previous national record of 39.33 seconds held by Gaurika Singh with a new timing of 38.6 seconds. 

Olympian Gaurika had set the national record of 39.33 seconds in the 12th SAG held in Guwahati, India. Sonira Bista finished second behind Niharika in the event clocking 39.6 seconds at the Satdobato Swimming Complex. Similarly, Akshara Singh remained a distant third position clocking 44.5 seconds. 

In the first day of the tournament which began Friday, Shirish Gurung won gold in boys’ 400 meters freestyle event clocking 4 minutes and 39.35 seconds. Diwash Manandhar and Anubhav Subba claimed second and third places in the same event respectively. 

Similarly, in the girls’ 200 meters open freestyle, Shritika Singh, Tisha Shakya and Duwana Lama claimed first, second and third positions respectively. 

In the boys’ 100 meter open butterfly, Anubhav Subba grabbed first position while Bishnu Baduwal and Bijay Shrestha finished in second and third positions respectively. 
Similarly Shritika won gold in the girls’ 100 meters freestyle event while Tisha and Duwana claimed silver and bronze respectively. In the same event in the boys’ section, Diwash grabbed gold, Anubhav won silver and Nitish Manandhar won bronze.  Likewise Subham Shrestha won gold in the boys’ 200 meters breaststroke while Kiran Karki and Rupesh Chaudhary claimed silver and bronze respectively. 

In the 200 meters backstroke, Diwash claimed gold, Anubhav and Nasir Hussain won silver and bronze respectively. In the same event of girls’ section, Sonira Bista finished first followed by Niharika and Duwana.
