KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) made yet another record of the biggest single-day turnover of Rs 27.24 billion on Monday.

As the secondary market rallied with notable gains also in the second trading day of the week, the daily turnover amount became Rs 1.47 billion higher than the amount recorded on the previous day. On Sunday, the daily turnover amount stood at Rs 25.77 billion.

Along with a surge in share prices, the market capitalization also had a single-day gain of Rs 112 billion. The market capitalization jumped to Rs 4.653 trillion from Rs 4.541 trillion in the review period.

In the intraday trading on Monday, the secondary market jumped by 70.81 points to close at 2,931.65 points. It opened at 2,860.84 points and escalated to as high as 2,928.99 points in the first hour. In the next moment, the index declined by around 43 points before it regained momentum to reach the day’s high at 2,937.4 points in the last 10 minutes. The market shed around six points to close at 2,931.65 points for the day.   

The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, also added 10.56 points. Among individual companies, 171 were recorded as gainers whereas 68 were the losers.

Out of the 13 groups, only two groups including manufacturing and processing, and investment lost 99.28 points and 0.22 points, respectively. Among the 11 gainers, life insurance added the highest of 815.81 points.

Himalayan Reinsurance Limited had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 1.22 billion. Seven companies including SuryaJyoti Life Insurance, Himalayan Life Insurance, Joshi Hydropower Development Company, Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Company, Swet-Ganga Hydropower & Construction Limited, Shuvam Power Limited and Vision Lumbini Urja Company were listed as the biggest gainers, adding 10 percent to their market values. Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower Limited was recorded as the biggest loser.
