NEPSE index increases by 10.76 points as investors secured capital gains of Rs 19 billion last week

The weekday transaction witnesses record high daily turnover amount of Rs 23.71 billion and the largest single day fall of 145.05 points

KATHMANDU, Aug 10: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) last week added 10.76 points in its index.

After surging by exorbitant marks of 143.79 points and 187.51 points in the previous two weeks, the market index was corrected by nominal value. The market has been in a bull trend in the past few weeks after Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) introduced flexible regulatory measures through the monetary policy for the current fiscal year.

In four-day trading last week, the secondary market opened at 2,755.62 points on Monday and closed at 2,766.38 points on Thursday. The market remained closed on Sunday due to a public holiday announced to mark BhotoJatra. The index reached as high as 2,815.94 points and as low as 2,630.86 points, witnessing a volatility of 185.03 points.

The market opened for the week with an increase of 40.76 points on Monday. It corrected on Tuesday with a record-high decline of 145.05 points, while the daily turnover also posted the highest amount at Rs 23.71 billion. On Wednesday, the market recovered 108.35 points, which was followed by a marginal gain of 6.70 points on Thursday.  

Seven out of 13 groups were the gainers in the review period. Manufacturing and processing by adding 308.07 points was recorded as the largest gainer. Of the losers, finance shed the highest of 222.45 points.

Among individual companies, Himalayan Reinsurance Limited had the largest transaction of its shares worth over Rs 5.26 billion. Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower Limited gained the highest of 46.29 percent (862.60 points). The price of shares of Himalayan Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited dropped by the largest of 17 percent (213.00 points).

The total turnover amount declined to Rs 83.60 billion from Rs 96.31 billion in the previous week. The average daily turnover however inclined to Rs 20.90 billion from Rs 19.26 billion.

Market capitalization escalated to Rs 4.391 trillion from Rs 4.372 trillion during the review week, which gave the investors with capital gains of Rs 19 billion in their portfolio. In the previous two weeks, investors had capital gains of Rs 526 billion.
