Nepal Police HQ issues circular asking subordinate bodies not to implement the policy of 30-year service limit for retirement
KATHMANDU, Aug 26: Nepal Police Headquarters has issued a circular requesting that the system of compulsory retirement after 30 years of service not be implemented, following an interim order from the Supreme Court (SC) on August 22.
The police headquarters has asked the subordinate bodies to act in accordance with the SC's interim order concerning the compulsory retirement of police personnel as stipulated in Rule 127 of the Police Regulations.
Due to the 30-year service requirement, 21 police officers who were scheduled for compulsory retirement on September 1 filed a petition with the Apex Court, arguing that the 30-year limit should not be enforced.
A single bench of Supreme Court Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal issued an interim order on August 22, halting the 30-year retirement rule. A full bench hearing on the petition is scheduled for September 26.
As a result of the SC’s order, the retirement of 90 high-ranking police officers, including a Deputy Inspector General, who were set to retire on September 1 due to the 30-year service rule, has been postponed.
