NEA warns disconnection of power lines of street lights installed without installing meters

KATHMANDU, March 29: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has once again called on the local governments to settle the outstanding electricity tariffs accrued from street light usage. In a notice released today, the NEA said that the local governments nationwide owe arrears for street light electricity consumption.

According to the NEA, various local governments across the country collectively owe more than Rs 6 billion in unpaid electricity tariffs related to street lighting. The notice serves as a reminder to the local bodies to promptly clear their dues.

Furthermore, the NEA has assured its willingness to facilitate repayment of accumulated arrears and accommodate installment-based payment options if required.

In addition, the NEA has issued a warning that the non-payment of dues and street lights installed without meters will result in the removal of those lights. Prior to any enforcement action, local governments are urged to formalize their status as NEA customers and ensure that street lights are equipped with meters.
