National Assembly to regularize 'zero hour'

KATHMANDU, Aug 15:  The Business Advisory Committee of the National Assembly has decided to allocate time for a zero hour during each session of the upper house. Previously, the zero hour was scheduled three days a week.

NA Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal informed the National Assembly today about the Committee's decision.

During the zero in today's session, lawmakers expressed concerns over ongoing discrimination against the Dalit community and monsoon-related hazards, including landslides, flooding, and inundations reported across the country.

Padam Bahadur Pariyar and Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma expressed concern over the persistent caste-based and other forms of discrimination faced by the Dalit community.

Rukmini Koirala urged the government to ensure that old-age allowances are delivered directly to the beneficiaries' doorsteps.

Renu Chand drew the government's attention to the difficulties faced by communities due to monsoon-triggered damages in various parts of the country while Bishnu Kumari Sapkota called for adequate relief and compensation for survivors of landslides and floods, as well as treatment for the injured and rehabilitation for the displaced.

Krishna Prasad Adhikari drew attention to the health risks for settlements around the Banchare Danda landfill site, calling for the need for government action to address the issue.
