KATHMANDU, Sept 5 : Sabita Khadka, a journalist working for Nagarik National Daily, a sister publication of Republica English Daily, was honored with this year's National Award for her significant contributions in reporting on the prevention and control of human trafficking. The award was presented during the 18th National Day Against Human Trafficking, organized by the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens in Kathmandu on Thursday.

Khadka has been recognized for her consistent coverage of the hardships faced by ordinary people, particularly those exploited under the guise of foreign employment and other opportunities. Her work has highlighted the growing complexities of human trafficking and the government's efforts at all levels to address this critical issue. 

The award was presented by Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, Nawal Kishore Sah Sudi and chairperson of the Women's Commission, Kamala Parajuli, among other dignitaries. Several other individuals and organizations dedicated to fighting human trafficking were also awarded on the occasion.

Also on Thursday, journalist Khadka was also honored by the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police, which presented her with a certificate of appreciation at a separate event. The Bureau recognized her media contributions in raising public awareness and aiding efforts to combat human trafficking and support investigation processes.
