Monsoon triggered landslides and flood displace locals

BHIMDUTTANAGAR, July 2: As many as seven families were displaced following landslide and flash floods triggered by two days of torrential rain here. 

Two persons have already died in Darchula in mudslides earlier with at least one suffering injuries, Darchula's Acting Chief District Officer, Bishwomitra Kuinkel said. 

The actual number of those displaced may be higher, according to Kuinkel, but the police record shows that seven families were completely displaced from various locations. "We have sent relief materials for the displaced," he added. 

Meanwhile, the work for removing the landslide debris that blocked the Baitadi-Darchula road stretch since Thursday is continuing. 

The police building in Jailjibi area of Darchula also suffered losses due to landslide. The police officers at the station and the equipments have been transferred to safer location, District Police Office, Darchula said. 

The Shankerpur, Gywani, Bhagwati, Dattu, Dandakot, Sarmoli, Kharkada, Lali, Rithachaupata, Bohari Gaun and Gokuleshwor among other VDCs are prone to landslides, according to the local administration. RSS
