MoGA guidelines allow civil servants to do business

KATHMANDU, Dec 1: The Ministry of General Administration has implemented guidelines allowing civil servants to engage in other business as long as it does not affect their civil service work.

The ministry implemented the guidelines as per the Civil Service Act 2049. The provisions mentioned in the guidlines allow civil servants to work for their company, to do business and other extra work without hampering their government duties.

“The provisions mentioned in the guidelines are in line with the Civil Service Act,” said Nandaraj Gyawali, under-secretary at MoGA.

As per guidelines, civil servants can start their extra works only after the approval from the government and the extra work should not disturb their civil service work. However, they are not permitted to engage in the operation and management of any banks, financial institutions, educational institutions, cooperative institutions and other companies. Civil servants are also allowed to buy the shares of public companies, according to the guidelines.
