Miklajung aspires to be a tourist hub
Nestled among the beautiful hills of Panchthar district, Miklajung has a great potential for becoming a tourist hub. Surrounding the area are rivulets running between the hills, forming a spectacular landscape. Fog dances in an interesting hide and seek among the hills, arising from the gorges and disappearing in the sky.
Roads of this area run through the middle of the residential area, and every house has a power supply. This village comprises of tidy and small houses. Residents of this area are involved in agriculture and animal husbandry.
People come to Miklajung to take a break from their busy lives and relieve their stress in the midst of serene nature. This place is full of possibilities for tourism, as visitor can observe beautiful sunrise, well ordered mountains, different districts of the eastern region of the country, and typical hill villages.
Different places of India can also be seen from this place, such as Darjeeling, Sikkim, Kalompong and Siliguri. Lots of efforts are being made for the development of tourism industry in this place. Miklajung, Lekhgaun and Gumba hills have many possibilities to be developed into a destination for cultural, religious, and natural tourism.
As it is 2,500 meters above the sea level, tourists come in droves to this place although there is not enough infrastructure here. According to the locals, Baisakh, Falgun and Manghsir months according to the Nepali calendar are the best times to view sunset from this place.
Apart from taking pleasure in the beauty of the surrounding area, people also came here for religious purpose since it is the place where the sage Falgunanda had come for meditation.
"Lots of efforts are made at the local level for the development of this place," said Sanjay Rai, secretary of Miklajung Laliguransh Club. “The little aid provided by the government for this place is not enough for development of tourism here." He believes it will be the best tourist destination of eastern Nepal if enough budget is allocated for the development of this area.
Mysterious stony Chamere Cave that is also mentioned in Hindu mythological text Mahabharat lies in here. According to the Kirat folklore, this is the place where sage Sodhungen Lembuhang had saved people from water disaster.
Followers of Kirat religion worship the cave used by their teacher Falgunanda with huge respect. Similarly, shila (stone) of sheshnaag also lies in this place.
This place is perfect for those who want to explore the nature and study natural ecosystem. Different endangered species of flora and fauna are available in this place.
