Influx of tourists has increased in Timbu Lake with the commencing trekking season. The lake elevates 4,480 meters above the sea level and is situated at the border of Panchthar and Taplejung districts. The lake that offers majestic views of mountain range can be reached after one day ride from district headquarter Phidim.

Situated on the lap of Himalayas, Timbu Lake is the perfect vacation destination for those, who loves altitude. Phidim resident, Dipen Wanem who recently visited the lake said, “Wow! It’s such a wonderful place. Timbu is the perfect place for a quick get out.”

The lake has its religious importance as well. Number of pilgrims visits the lake for some special occasions like Nagh Panchami. Due to the lack of proper hospitality services, locals of this place have been operating home stays at their resident for visitor’s ease. Locals think government should focus on tourism infrastructures to promote tourism of Timbu. Speaking about the clients one of the home stay operators Bhim Bhandari said, “Not just from hill, we have started getting clients from plains as well.”

Clean hills covered in a white forest, sparkling lake, bio-diversity makes the place unique from rest. A trekking guide, Delhi Oli said, “Tourists like to observe authentic culture, tradition and lifestyle of this place. Due to the unique cultural and bio-diversity, number of tourists is increasing, Last year only I visited Timbu Lake 14 times.”
