Metropolitan police intensifies CCTV installation drive

KATHMANDU, Sept 24: The Metropolitan Police have intensified the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in multiple locations of the Kathmandu Valley.

Busy and the most sensitive areas in the Valley are to be brought under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. The Metropolitan Police Commissioner's Office has said CCTV cameras have already been set in 241 public locations and the installation in more 94 locations including in Jawalakhel, Satdobato, Budhanilkantha and Maharajgunj areas is underway.

The installation is aimed at stepping up public security with checking and controlling road offences, the Office said. Areas outside the ring road will also have CCTVs, Office Commissioner Pratap Singh Thapa said. The installation is expected to cost around Rs 20 million. RSS
