Maoists take action against MP Devkota for ‘floor-crossing’

Maoists take action against MP Devkota for ‘floor-crossing’

POKHARA, June 14: The CPN (Maoist Center) has taken action against Phadindra Devkota, a member of parliament in Gandaki Province, for ‘crossing the floor’ and giving a vote of confidence to the Chief Minister (CM) Surendra Raj Pandey.

Hari Bahadur Chuman, the leader of the Maoist Parliamentary Party, informed the province assembly secretariat about the action taken against Devkota. During the second meeting of the provincial assembly on Friday, the speaker is set to announce the action, which could result in Devkota being relieved of his post.

Devkota, from the Nepal Socialist Party (NSP), contested the election in Gorkha 2 (A) on the Maoist Center symbol. Despite a whip from the Maoist parliamentary party, he voted in favor of CM Pandey on June 10  and subsequently became the energy minister.

Devkota claimed that as he belonged to a different political party, the whips issued by the Maoist Center don’t apply to him.
