Maoist leader Janardan Sharma proposes leadership overhaul and expanded ideological focus

KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Maoist Center Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma has called for a major shift in the party's leadership and a stronger focus on ideology. He proposed that leadership should be handed over to the ‘third generation’ while Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal would remain as a guiding figure.

“To move forward, we need to pass on leadership to the next generation while ensuring Chairman Dahal remains a guardian to provide ideological guidance,” Sharma said. He suggested dissolving the current central committee and forming a new one to oversee the election of new leaders through direct voting.

Sharma also criticized the current direction of the party, pointing out the need for more clarity in its ideology. “We must return to our core socialist values and move away from the neoliberal policies that have influenced our state policies,” he said.

Expressing concern over the party's declining support, Sharma attributed it to unfulfilled promises and ineffective leadership. “Our organizational structure has not evolved since the peace process, and we must now focus on production, job creation, and land reform,” he added.

He also presented a 16-point plan to revitalize the party and align its policies with the socialist goals outlined in the constitution. Sharma stressed the importance of protecting constitutional rights and preparing for potential challenges. “We need to be vigilant and ready to defend our principles, especially if there are any attempts to amend the constitution in a way that undermines our progress,” Sharma said.
