Man held for bypassing int’l calls

KATHMANDU, Nov 3: A police squad deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested a man on the charge of bypassing international calls in the cover of an online business.

The local of Naxal, identified as Raviraj Singh, was operating with the support from a Sri Lankan citizen.

Singh had earlier served two years in jail for being involved in counterfeit currencies but later got clean chit from Kathmandu District Court in the same case.

According to SP Dibesh Lohani, spokesperson of the CIB, police investigation has found that Singh was involved in the fraudulent act of call bypassing through landline phone by misusing the Primary Rate Interface technology.

Singh had registered a company for operating an online business and had installed the device at his office building in KMC-1, Panipokhari in the name of Kanchha Gurung.
According SP Lohani, it was the first incident in which involvement of a Sri Lankan national was found in call bypassing in Nepal.

Police further said that Singh was involved in the act just before Tihar festival by installing the device that can bypass calls from 120 lines at a time.  If proven guilty, Singh will be charged as per the Nepal Telecommunication Act, said the police.
