KATHMANDU, Aug 14: The Madheshi Commission submitted its sixth annual report to President Ram Chandra Paudel on Wednesday. In the report, the Commission recommended reviewing the reservation policy and listing Sakhadeshwari Bhagwati on the World Heritage List.

The report, presented by the Chairperson of the Commission, Dr. Bijay Kumar Dutta, includes recommendations to advance the process of reviewing the reservation policy to integrate marginalized communities of Madhesh into the mainstream state structures.

Following a survey of the backward castes and groups within the Madhesi community, the Commission recommended that 60 percent of reservations should be based on caste and 40 percent on groups.

Additionally, it suggested that the age ceiling for joining the civil service for the reserved group of the Madhesi community should be 35 years for men and 40 years for women.

The Commission also recommended that Sakhadeshwari Bhagwati of Saptari be listed on the World Heritage List. Furthermore, it advised the formation of a high-level judicial commission as soon as possible to ascertain the truth behind the religious conflicts that occurred after 2007/2008.

Dr. Dutta stated that the Commission has made important recommendations on 44 issues to the government through their report. He also mentioned that the Commission has started processing the complaints registered in the last fiscal year.
