Leopard with three new-born cubs terrorizing villagers

BHAKTAPUR, Sept 9: A leopard that gave birth to three cubs at an abandoned house inside a human settlement has terrorized the locals in Anantalingeswar municipality-8.

The house owned by Lalit Jung Thapa near Somalingeswar temple in Sirutar had been abandoned after it was damaged in last years’ earthquake.

The leopard gave birth to three cubs a week ago at the second floor of the house, according to local resident Pradip Karki. The matter came to light after a leopard was seen in the surrounding, sometimes behind a bush and at times in the field.

Locals have informed both the police and the district forest office. “We have requested the forest office to take away the leopard from there”, said DSP at the metropolitan police range, Thimi Shyam Babu Oliya.

Meanwhile, wildlife experts from the Department of Forest and the Central Zoo have been summoned to help trap the leopard, according to acting Chief of the Forest Office Nuchhe Krishna Shrestha. RSS
