Landslide in Jajarkot injures three quake victims

KATHMANDU, July 17: Three people were injured when a temporary shelter for earthquake victims collapsed in Kushe Rural Municipality, Jajarkot. The injured are Kamala Thapa, 34, Nirmaya Thapa, 16, and Hastika Thapa, 4, all from Kushe Rural Municipality-8.

Kushe Rural Municipality-8 Ward Chairman Dilli Bahadur Singh said that preparations are underway to rescue the injured by a helicopter to Nepalgunj. “We are in talks with the Chief District Officer (CDO), who might be arranging something,” he said.

According to Ward Chairman Singh, Hastika's condition is critical. While she is regaining consciousness, Nirmaya Thapa has injuries in both her legs. Nirmaya had previously undergone leg surgery and is now unable to walk due to the new injury.

The landslide occurred last night at around 10 PM at the site where they were staying. Singh stated that while attempting to pull Nirmaya, who had injured her leg during the landslide, her neighbor Kalpana was also struck by the slide.

On November 3 of last year, an earthquake with its epicenter in Jajarkot caused a significant loss of life and property. The quake damaged several wards, including Kushe Rural Municipality’s wards 7, 8, and 9. Since their homes were destroyed, the villagers have been living in temporary shelters.
