Kathmandu tops global air pollution chart again

Kathmandu tops global air pollution chart again

KATHMANDU, April 22: Kathmandu has once again become the most air-polluted city in the world. According to IQAir, which measures air pollution levels, Kathmandu recorded a pollution level of 182 AQI at 10:30 AM on Monday. This indicates that air pollution in Kathmandu has increased compared to Sunday, making it the most polluted city globally.

Following Kathmandu, Beijing in China ranks second with an AQI of 164, and Kolkata in India third with an AQI of 158.

The high levels of air pollution are attributed to western winds and forest fires occurring across various parts of Nepal and neighboring India. At 10:30 AM, air pollution levels ranged from 150 to 200 AQI in different parts of Nepal, including Bharatpur, Kathmandu, and Pokhara.

The persistent air pollution over the past few days has adversely affected human health.
