Indian President conducts special pooja at Pashupatinath Temple

KATHMANDU,   Nov 3: Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, who is on a three-day state visit to Nepal, has carried out a special pooja at Pashupatinath Temple on Thursday morning.

President Mukherjee performed the pooja by lightning lakh batti (100,000 wicks) and sprinkling Panchamrita (a sacred mixture of five ingredients including milk, curd, honey, sugar and ghee).

Mukherjee was welcomed by 108 Batuk (Hindu boys) chanting Swasti mantras amid musical resonance of panchai baja and thime baja (traditional musical instruments) after entering through the main eastern gate of Pashupatinath Temple.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened at the Pashupatinath areas.
