Indian envoy Rae urges UDMF to support constitution amendment bill

KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae has urged the top leaders of United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) to support constitution amendment bill.

Inviting the UDMF leaders to the embassy on Saturday morning, Ambassador Rae has persuaded them to support the constitution amendment bill registered by the government.

Rae has expressed concern after the UDMF refused to support the constitution amendment bill.

Rae asked the UDMF leaders for their views on the amendment bill over a lunch reception, sources said.

In a response to the bill registered by the government in the parliament, the UDMF leaders said that the amendment proposal was positive and they would accept it if it were to be modified.

“We have agreed to lend support to the constitution amendment bill if it were to be modified,” Nepal Sadbhavana Party President Rajendra Mahato told Republica Online.
