KATHMANDU, Aug 23: A Member of Parliament (MP) from the CPN (Maoist Center), Lekhnath Dahal, has stated that the issue concerning Tribhuvan University (TU) should be brought to the attention of the House of Representatives (HoR).

Speaking at the HoR meeting on Thursday, MP Dahal mentioned that the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of the university were on leave citing security concerns and stressed that MPs should be informed about the true situation there.

He also demanded that the government provide security at the university.

“If there is insecurity in TU, where can security be provided? Whether there is a government or not, if there is a government, security should be provided at TU,” he said.

MP Dahal added that it is shameful for the government to have created insecurity in the university.

“If the problem is political, it should be resolved through negotiation. If it is hooliganism, it should be controlled through legal means. It is shameful to say that there is insecurity at TU under any circumstances,” he said. 

On Wednesday, Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Bidya Bhattarai took to Facebook saying that there were attempts to attack and threaten TU officials. She requested the home minister to arrange security at the university.
