ICC agrees to form board to regulate Nepali cricket

ICC agrees to form board to regulate Nepali cricket

KATHMANDU, Sept 4: A team of International Cricket Council (ICC) officials, which is currently in Nepal with an objective to resolve the dispute surrounding Nepal’s cricket governing body, called on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday.

ICC agreed to constitute Cricket Development Board to regulate Nepali cricket after a team led by ICC Chief Executive David Richardson met PM Dahal, according to Minister for Youth and Sports, Daljit Shripali.

He added that an advisory committee comprising of five to seven members will be formed soon for that.

“During the meeting with ICC officials, we had proposed forming a board instead of a cricket association,” he said, “ICC has agreed to our proposal.”

He added that the government plans to hold elections of the board within three months.

Nepal Sports Council (NSC) Member-secretary, Keshav Bista was also present on the occasion.

ICC had suspended the membership of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) citing government’s interference in April.
