KATHMANDU, Aug 9: The Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives has directed the government to implement the recommendations made by the sub-committee to improve the condition of the prisons and juvenile homes in Nepal. 

The committee has formed three sub-committees to carry out on-site monitoring of the human rights situations of children in juvenile homes and detainees in prisons. These sub-committees have already submitted their reports to the committee. 

After discussing the reports, the committee directed the government to implement the recommendations made by these reports. The meeting has attracted the government’s attention to implement the recommendations of Biratnagar’s Children's Correction Centre and prison monitoring sub-committee of Morang, Sunsari and Dhankuta districts. 

The committee chairperson, Bimala Subedi, informed Republica that a decision has been made to request the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, and the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs to implement the recommendations made by the different reports from 2024  regarding the monitoring of the Bal Sudhar Griha in Birgunj and the prisons in Parsa, Rautahat, Mahottari, and Sarlahi districts, as well as the Jaindu Bal Sudhar Griha in Banke and the prisons in Banke, Bardiya, and Surkhet. 

She mentioned, "The decision was made to draw the Nepal government's attention to the suggestions received on issues not covered in the reports through the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs."

The committee has also stated that it will draw the government's attention to the suggestions not included in the subcommittee reports through the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.
