House panel urges govt to adhere to proportional inclusive principle in ambassadorial appointments

KATHMANDU, Sep 3: The International Relations and Tourism Committee under the House of Representatives has urged the government to consider the letter and spirit of the proportional inclusive principle while recommending Nepali ambassadors for different countries.

In a meeting held on Tuesday, the committee drew the government's attention to the provisions of the preamble of the Constitution, Articles 42 and 282, and the Ambassador Appointment Directive 2075, emphasizing the need to adhere to the proportional inclusive principle in ambassador appointments.

Concerns have been raised about the Cabinet's disregard for the proportional inclusive principle while recommending ambassadorial appointments.

The committee also discussed Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba's visit to India.

Speaking in the meeting, Minister Deuba stated that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a positive response to the invitation to visit Nepal.
