Fraudster lands in police net

KATHMANDU, July 4: Police have arrested a man on the charge of defrauding a foreign job aspirant of Rs 2.2 million by promising him a Canadian visa under the earthquake victims’ quota.

 The arrested is 31-year-old Dev Jung Pandit of Dhapasi, Kathmandu, who is currently staying at Tokha Municipality- 8.

According to police, Pandit took Machchhe Shrestha of Budhanilkantha Municipality-17, into confidence and lured him to deposit Rs 2.2 million at an IME account.

Shrestha came to realise that he was swindled only after he was left in the lurch in Africa before reaching Canada.

The victim managed to return Nepal himself and lodged a complaint at the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPPCD).

Pandit has been charged under fraud after keeping him at the MPPCD for investigation.
