KATHMANDU, Sep 3: The forum of former police chiefs has demanded action against Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, for making inappropriate comments against Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar.

Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, the Former Nepal Police Chiefs Forum demanded action against Minister Gurung for his statement that 'IGP’s tongue should be yanked out,' calling it inappropriate.

“In relation to this kind of incident, which undermines the dignity of both active and retired security personnel, we request the Honorable Prime Minister to take note of the indecent remarks made by the honorable minister and take necessary action," the statement reads.

The Forum has also requested Minister Gurung to withdraw his statement, apologize to IGP Kunwar, and be careful before commenting on security agencies in the future.

Earlier on Saturday, while speaking at a press conference organized by Press Chautari in Pokhara, Minister Gurung made an insensitive statement, saying 'IGP’s tongue should be yanked out.’

“The ones causing the most obstruction are the people from that very area. What did the IGP (Inspector General of Police) say? He said, 'I will not implement this law.' Is he allowed to speak like that? His tongue should have been yanked out,” Gurung had said, “The head of an institution cannot speak against the government's policy or system. I heard that he even said something like 'I will not implement the Police Act.”
