Fifty per cent factories defunct

ILAM, Aug 14: A huge bulk of the industries registered with the Cottage and Small Industry Development Committee –Ilam have shutdown. 

Of the total of 2837 industries registered with the Committee, only 1452 are found to be still functioning. The rest of the industries have closed down, Committee said. 

The industries still running include 79 tea factories, 262 rice mills, 63 computer labs, 170 dairies, 109 factories in the construction sector, 129 sewing factories, 18 house wiring, 68 grill and furniture factories, 53 beauty parlors and 501 factories in the miscellaneous category. 

A total of 1385 registered industries have not even undergone regular renewal of their licenses and are now defunct. Registrations of many of such industries have been scrapped, Committee Chief, Navaraj Raut said. RSS
