EU Court of Human Rights decides against ex-British Gurkha soldiers

LONDON, Sept 16: Ex-Gurkhas have lost the case they had filed at the European Court of Human Rights demanding equal pension as per the Gurkha armies of other countries.

  “According to the new pension law introduced in 2007, there is no difference in the pension allowance between Gurkha and Non-Gurkha soldiers,” the court said in its verdict delivered on Thursday.

The British Gurkha Welfare Society (BGWS) had filed the case in 2011 claiming that the pension of Gurkha Soldiers was three times less than that of Non-Gurkha soldiers.

Earlier, a British court, too, had given its verdict against the ex-Gurkha in the same pension issue.
