Envoy Rae makes the case for shared prosperity

KATHMANDU, Oct 6: Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae has urged all concerned not to harbor any suspicion, doubt and mistrust about India's readiness to support Nepal in its efforts for peace and prosperity.

Speaking at a press conference at Reporters' Club on Wednesday, Indian Ambassador Rae said that India wants both Nepal and India to prosper together.

“Please remove any suspicion, doubt and mistrust that India does not want peace and prosperity in Nepal. We sometimes also see in (Nepalese) media. India wants Nepal to prosper along with it,” he added.

He said that India will also be affected if there is no peace and prosperity in Nepal.

“If we prosper together, both the countries will be benefited,” he said.

He believed that the high-level visits of top leaders to each other's country has taken the bilateral relations to a new height and the cooperation between the two countries is likely to increase in the coming days.

“We want the relationships between the two countries to be positive and I believe that the high-level visits will rapidly increase cooperation between us,” he added.

He said that Indian President Pranab Mukharjee will visit Nepal right after Bhai Tika of Tihar.

“Right now, high-level political understandings have been made between the two countries. The high-level visits are not just courtesy calls but the visits have paved way for huge achievements,” he added.

He also said that the Eminent Persons Group meeting in New Delhi will contribute for peace, sustainability and development in both the countries.

Stating that India is for giving priorities to the development projects which will benefit both the countries, Rae said, “We have identified various possible projects related to hydropower and other infrastructural developments and we are serious about how we can effectively implement them.”
