Delayed promotion process costs DIG Pokharel his promotion!

KATHMANDU, July 5: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Posh Raj Pokharel, who was recommended for promotion to the post of Additional Inspector  General (AIG) for a brief two-day tenure, retired from the police service as a DIG because his promotion process was delayed.

DIG Pokharel was recommended for promotion to AIG on June 24. However, a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday did not take a decision on the recommendation. Because of this, he has gone to retirement at the age of 56. As per the Police Act 2014, there is a provision for AIGs and DIGs to retire at the age of 56.

AIG Umesh Raj Joshi retired on July 2. Before his retirement, the recommendation committee had recommended Pokharel for promotion, as per which he would have served as an AIG for two days.

Pokharel, who was the head of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, was widely criticized for being recommended for promotion to AIG post for two days.
