Cooperative fraud issue: Preparations underway to form a seven-member parliamentary probe committee, ToR to be finalized today

KATHMANDU, May 28: A parliamentary probe committee is being formed to investigate the misappropriation of funds of cooperatives. The major parties are preparing to form a seven-member parliamentary probe committee today.

The leaders have said that the Terms of Reference (ToR) of the parliamentary probe committee will be decided beforehand. The task force meeting at 11AM on Tuesday will finalize the ToR.

Following this, the parliamentary committee will be constituted, comprising two members each from the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, and one member each from the CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). The committee will be given a three-month timeframe to submit its investigation report.

The NC has been demanding for the formation of a parliamentary probe committee to investigate Rabi Lamichhane, the chairman of the RSP and Home Minister, regarding the cooperative funds misappropriation case.

Although the parties had agreed to form a parliamentary committee at the initiative of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, they had previously been unable to reach a consensus on the ToR for the committee.
