CNP starts carrying out health test of dead animals

CHITWAN, June 25: The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has started carrying out health test of other dead animals for the first time after tuberculosis was found on a dead rhino last year.

Chief Conservation Officer at the Chitwan National Park, Ram Chandra Kandel, said that they started carrying out health test of any dead animal not to let other animals in the park infected with disease.

According to Kandel, the park has collected sample of some dead jackal found dead at western part of park and also carried out health test.

He said, "We have started carrying out health test of other dead wildlife. Although the tuberculosis was found on a rhino, no disease has been found on any dead animals so far."

A sample test carried out in Japan confirmed tuberculosis on a female rhino died on February 17, 2015 at Amaltari in the Park after one year. There are more than 600 rhinos as well as different types of animals in the Citwan National Park. RSS
