Climbers begin securing permits for autumn mountaineering

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: This autumn, mountaineers have started obtaining permits for various peaks, including the popular Manaslu.

According to the Department of Tourism (DoT), 132 people, including 34 women and 38 men from 12 climbing groups, have received permits for the season. Specifically, 120 climbers from 10 groups, including 32 women and 88 men, have secured permission to ascend Manaslu.

Climbers from 31 countries, including Nepal, are set to climb three different mountains, with Manaslu emerging as the most sought-after peak this season. Known as the "Killer Mountain," Manaslu stands at 8,163 meters and has attracted the highest number of permits this year.

Autumn is regarded as the ideal season for climbing Manaslu, which has been a popular destination since its first successful ascent in May 1956.
