Clash between NUP leaders over recognition and inclusion

KATHMANDU, April 1: A physical altercation erupted between the leaders of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) during a meeting of the party.

The incident occurred at the party’s central office in Anamnagar during a central committee meeting on Monday.

Ramlal Dagaura Tharu, a central member and also the mayor of Tikapur Municipality, said that five founding members who attended the meeting were assaulted.

He said, “Five founding members, including myself, who attended the meeting, were subjected to violence. The party’s patron was also present. He should take full responsibility for this incident.”

Tharu stated that following the election commission’s failure to recognize Resham Chaudhary as the chairman of NUP, there was a dispute between the founding central committee consisting of 21 central members under Ranjita Shrestha’s leadership, and leaders from Chaudhary's side. The altercation arose when the Chaudhary faction argued on including all members.

Similarly, there is an ongoing dispute regarding NUP’s participation in both the central government and the Far West Provincial government.
