CIAA officials could face consequences: Adhikari

KATHMANDU, Aug 7: Lawmaker and well-known legal expert Radheshyam Adhikari said that the CIAA will have to face consequences if it continues to overstep its jurisdiction and defy court orders.

“The CIAA has been overstepping its jurisdiction time and again ignoring court orders. The court orders are meant to correct the constitutional body’s mistakes,” Adhikari said, adding, “Everything has its limit. If the CIAA does not mind its jurisdiction despite repeated court orders, the CIAA as well as its officials should be ready to face consequences.”

He said that the anti-graft body has been repeatedly breaching its jurisdiction although the constitution of Nepal has limited its jurisdiction to investigating the acts of corruption carried out by individuals in public position.

“Recently, the CIAA has been implicating people under ‘improper acts’ although the new constitution does not grant it power to do so,” said Adhikari.

“In addition, the CIAA has been issuing orders, which look like mandamus orders from court, to various authorities. The court has already ordered it to stop doing so,” said Adhikari.
