Call to delete pejorative terms used to denote people with disabilities from parliament’s archive

Call to delete pejorative terms used to denote people with disabilities from parliament’s archive

KATHMANDU, July 7: During today's session of the National Assembly, lawmaker Padam Bahadur Giri expressed concern over the use of derogatory language for people with disabilities in the previous session. He called for the removal of such terms from parliament's official records.

He said that in the July 4 meeting of the upper house, words like 'crippled' and  'lame' were used, which he deemed insulting to the people with disabilities. He urged the National Assembly Chair to ensure that such language is not used in future meetings and requested the removal of those terms from the archive.

In response, National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal assured that the NA would investigate whether such terms were used in the meeting and would do the needful towards that end.
