HETAUDA, July 21: The chief minister (CM) of Bagmati Province, Salikram Jamkattel, has resigned. 

After receiving a suggestion from the CPN (Maoist Center) parliamentary party of Bagmati Province, CM Jamkattel addressed the provincial assembly and announced his resignation.

According to CPN (Maoist Center)'s Chief Secretary Ratna Prasad Dhakal, the members of the provincial assembly suggested he resign during a parliamentary party meeting on Sunday. 

Dhakal said, “The parliamentary party meeting suggested he resign. The chief minister has decided to respect the parliamentary party's suggestion.”

Previously, Jamkattel had planned to seek a vote of confidence. On  21st July, the coordination committee meeting had prepared an agenda to seek a vote of confidence.

On January 9, 2023, Jamkattel led a government formed through a coalition of CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN-UML. However, this government lasted only for two and a half months, and CPN-UML withdrew from the government.

On 24 March 2023, Jamkattel sought a vote of confidence to form a coalition government with the Nepali Congress and Unified Socialist Party.

The CPN (Maoist Center) allied again with CPN-UML and they entered the government as part of the first coalition in Bagmati Province on 3rd March 2024. 

In March, a government was formed comprising the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre), Unified Socialist Party, and Hamro Nepali Party. 

Now, a coalition government will be formed in Bagmati between the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML.
