Know MoreJANAKPURDHAM, July 2: Significant remains from the Lichchhavi period, dating back to the 8th/9th century, have been discovered during the excavation of the Matheshwarnath Temple in Ward 6 of Dhanusha Municipality.
The Department of Archaeology, led by archaeologist Prakash Darnal, initiated the excavation on June 21. The team uncovered ancient inscriptions, coins, and other artifacts that are estimated to be over a thousand years old. These findings indicate the historical significance and antiquity of the temple.
The inscriptions and artifacts are characteristic of the Lichchhavi style, providing valuable insights into the era's cultural and historical context. Archaeologist Darnal and his team believe these discoveries could shed new light on the region's ancient history and the Lichchhavi civilization's influence.
The ongoing excavation aims to further explore and preserve these invaluable historical remains, contributing to a deeper understanding of Nepal's rich heritage.
