All-party meeting begins at Sheetal Niwas

KATHMANDU, Dec 4: A meeting of all the political parties representing in the Parliament has started at Sheetal Niwas, the President’s Office on Sunday evening. 

The meeting has been called at a time when the political parties are sharply divided over the constitution amendment bill registered in Parliament.

Sources said that the President will urge the top leaders of the parties to forge a consensus on the bill.  

Protests have erupted in different parts of the country after the government registered the constitution amendment bill to split hill districts from Province 5.

The President had summoned the meeting to discuss the latest political development, according to a source.

 “President Bhandari has been concerned with the latest political development,” a source at Sheetal Niwas told Republica Online on Saturday, adding, “She has called an all party meeting in a bid to seek a political solution to the current imbroglio.”

Bhandari has been urging the top leaders of the major the political parties to bail the country out of the current political deadlock through consensus.

Earlier, on November 28, at a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli held at Sheetal Niwas, President had urged the leaders to take the constitution amendment process forward through consensus.
