Adverse weather affects air service

KATHMANDU, Sept 1: Flights across the country were affected due to adverse weather on Sunday. Both domestic and international flights to and from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) were affected due to poor visibility caused by continuous rainfall.

According to Jagannath Niroula, general manager of TIA, an international flight of Air China was ‘diverted’ while other international flights were ‘delayed’.

Domestic flights of Pokhara, Bharatpur and Simara airports were also closed till Sunday afternoon due to adverse weather conditions. According to the TIA, only flights using instrument flight rules were operational on Sunday.

Dipendra Kumar Karna, information officer for Gautam Buddha International Airport, said that regional flights to Bharatpur, Pokhara and Nepalgunj were also affected due to the inclement weather. Similarly, flights from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar were canceled.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), the entire country witnessed the influence of the monsoon wind on Sunday. Due to the monsoon low pressure line located to the south of the average location, the weather across the country remained partially to generally cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall occurred in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces and at a few places in the remaining provinces.  Similarly, the MFD predicted the possibility of heavy rainfall at one or two places in the Koshi and Gandaki provinces.
