KATHMANDU, July 20: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Monday arrested an absconding fraudster who was convicted by the District Court Kathmandu about 12 years ago on the charge of duping a woman by using fake notes to pay the debt he owed to her.

According to CIB, Balaram Shrestha, 37, originally from Tripureshwar VDC-1 of Dhading District and currently residing in Lazimpat-2 of Kathmandu, had been on the run since he was pronounced guilty by the District Court Kathmandu on February 5, 2004.

According to Goma Lama, the victim, Shrestha had taken Rs 200,000 from her, promising to pay her double the amount within a few months.

But on the day he called her for returning the money, he handed her four bundles of paper with Rs 1000 notes on the top of each bundle.

Immediately after learning that she had been duped, Lama reported the matter to the police.

As per the judgment execution campaign, the convict was arrested from Gongabu and has been sent to the Central Jail, Sundhara, to serve his terms.
