17 cholera cases detected across Nepal till Monday

KATHMANDU, July 29: Cholera has been spreading throughout Nepal. The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) has confirmed cholera in 17 people across the country till Monday.

According to the EDCD, seven people in Lalitpur, three in Kathmandu, and seven in Dhangadhi have been diagnosed with cholera. The EDCD said that cholera has been observed through contaminated water and food after continuous rains.

The EDCD has said that coordination works are ongoing for the management of cholera after discussions with relevant agencies.

Cholera and diarrhea are caused by contaminated water and food. Coliform bacteria, Vibrio cholera, and other bacteria can lead to infection in the stomach after they enter the body through the mouth. Therefore, people should drink boiled or purified water, wash hands after using the toilet, clean fruits and vegetables before eating them, and consume fresh food to prevent cholera and diarrhea.
