Yugkavi's Poem 'bhukamap' in audio cassette

KATHMANDU, May 23: A poem 'Bhukampa' (earthquake) composed by Yugkavi Siddhicharan Shrestha in 1990 BS has been recorded in a tape and released today on the occasion of 104th birth anniversary of poet Shrestha. Dr Lochan Rijal composed the music and gave voice to the audio.

At a programme organised by the Yugkavi Siddhicharan Shrestha Memorial Foundation here today, Foundation patron and son of the late Shrestha, Rabi Charan Shrestha, recalled that different leaders made revolt and established democracy in 2007. For this, Yugkavi Shrestha had made the society aware against Rana regime through his creations.


Similarly, Nepali Congress leader and litterateur Purushottam Basnet said the late Shrestha added new dimension in Nepali literature.

He further said a programme scheduled to celebrate the birth anniversary of Siddhicharan for three days had to be cancelled owing to devastating earthquake.

On the occasion, Dr Mohan Lohani, Dr Usha Thakur, Mahesh Poudel and Ramesh Duwal among others recited Siddhicharan's poems. Various people including family members garlanded the statue of Yugkavi Siddhicharan Shrestha.

Born in 1969 BS in Okaldhunga, the Yugkavi has left behind more than four dozens of Nepali and Newari literary creations. RSS
