In boys´ 17 to 21 years age group, Ziwaing Gurung, Dechen Ugyen and Tshendra Dorji from Bhutan claimed the top-three positions after the completion of first round at the Gokarna Golf Course, Kathmandu.[break]
Gurung carded four-over 76, while Ugyen completed the first round with a score of five-over 77. Dorji submitted a card of six-over 78. Nepali golfer Sunal KC remained on the fourth position with a card of six-over 78 and Bikash Bogati remained on the fifth position with a score of seven-over 79. Three Bhutanese and 13 Nepali young golfers are competing in the age group.
In boys´ 12 to 16 years age group, Karma Dorji Khorko from Bhutan took a two-stroke lead over young Nepali golfer Arun Tamang. Khorko submitted a card of seven-over 79 while Tamang carded nine-over 81. Suryansh Chaudhary of Nepal remained on the third position with a score of 13-over 85. A Bhutanese, an Indian and 14 Nepali young golfers are vying in the age group.
Meanwhile, Sangya Ongdi Lama completed the first round with a score of 21-over 93 to remain on the top of the leader-board. Sonam Ongdi Lama and Aditi Ghimire are three strokes behind Sangya. There are only four Nepali girls competing in the section.
After the completion of the 36-holes on Friday, winner of each category will be decided. Winner of each section will qualify to compete in the grand finale of the Seventh Faldo Series Asia at the Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzhen, China.
The junior golf tournament is the topmost golfing event hosted by Nepal so far and has featured young golfers from Bhutan, India and the host Nepal. Nepal Golf Association (NGA) and Gokarna Forest Resort are jointly organizing the event.
